Dzi (Tibetan, pronounced ‘zee’, alternative spelling: gzi) is a type of stone bead of uncertain provenance, worn as part of a necklace or in a bracelet. The most highly prized dzi beads are ancient ones made of natural agate. Their origins, history and method of manufacture, are obscure, and this traditional style of bead is preferred. However, dzi beads of more recent manufacture are gaining popularity amongst Tibetans.
